On Google plus, you may have noticed some people doing the same annoying thing over and over again. Most of the times, it’s not on purpose. It is not their fault; they actually don’t know what they should do and what they should not.
Here are some of the prevalent mistakes people make on Google+ over and over again. I thought I’d give you a rundown of these, so that after reading this people never make such mistakes again.
Mistake #1: Incomplete profile:
If you are using Google plus for your company, give the complete details about your company. It will help you increase SEO.
Setting up a company page on Google+ is really very easy. It is just like making a business page on Facebook. To create a company page, you should have a personal profile on Google plus.
You can even post as yourself, but ensure that your company is up on the site. Otherwise, you will miss the opportunity to reference it, link back to it and do other similar activities to raise your business profile and search engine results page ranking.
When you are creating a business page for your company:
- Make sure you have included the keywords in introduction and tagline.
- Google allows you to include all the social networks in your Google+ profile. So, utilize that well for your business promotion on Google+.
- Don’t forget to include your business location, website, and product and service description.
All these will give a better SEO to your website and increase the trust on you among the people.
Mistake #2: Keyword stuffing in your profile:
Don’t stuff your Google plus profile too much with keywords.
For example : Designer Sarees, Designer Sarees, Designer Sarees.
They will not help you rank higher in SEO; moreover, Google may consider this as spam.
So, try to write a natural description of your product. Give more importance to the details you provide and also include a selection of your product and service name.
Mistake #3: Using a bad cover image:
A few months ago, Google plus made some important changes in its cover image. You cannot load the cover image less than 480 pixels wide and 270 pixels height.
It is recommended to use minimum of 2120 pixels x 1192 pixels. Also, make sure your image scales to the right dimensions and you take the location of your profile image into account.
Don’t use a poorly proportioned image and also don’t use a cover as given below. Try to place a creative cover image and something people would like to talk about.
Mistake #4: Not using circles:
In Google Plus you can separate people you follow based on family, friends, work, etc. It means you can send particular posts to particular connections.
You can create separate circles for online customers, in-store customers, business friends, coworkers, industry leaders, partners, etc.
Make sure you use them in a right way to develop your business on Google Plus.
Mistake #5. Spamming your circles:
Of course, circles are a great way to reach your targeted customers. But at the same time you should not overuse or abuse them.
Don’t post your update to them or don’t send them an email to notify those in your circle about your recent post.
Because, like Facebook, Google Plus also has algorithm to know what posts get seen in your circle’s news feed. The email option allows you to make sure an important post will reach the circles you need it to (like customers, if you are posting about a social contest marketing campaign, for example).
But don’t overuse them. It will annoy the people if your circles have not asked you for continual updates. It is spam.
Mistake #6. Posting updates only about your business:
Keep in mind that social media is basically for interacting with the customers and networks. People don’t like to hangout with people who talk only about themselves. The same is true about getting updates from companies that are posting updates only about themselves.
Like other social network, here too the 80/20 rule is important. 80% of your posts should be about your customers, clients, lifestyle and other stuffs; remaining 20% should be about your business. This is called as engagement.
Mistake #7: Avoiding negative comments:
Like positive comments, negative feedback is also important to improve your business. Ignoring them is really a worst thing. Since social media is an open forum, not everyone is going to agree with you or even like what you do.
You need to respond to the comments instantly as well as generously. Address the concerns of your negative commentators smartly to curtail the growth of negative feelings towards your business.
If there is any compliant about your products or services, then ask them to email you so that you can look into their problem.
If there is any negative comment about your company, try to rectify their issues, to turn it into a positive comment.
If there is a worst comment about your update, then try to communicate with them.
Mistake #8. Not joining communities:
Communities are an important thing that differentiates Google Plus from other social networks. So, find the correct communities that suit or relate to your business hub/niche and join them instantly.
It is a great way to find people interested in your niche and interact with them. Even Google recommends you some communities to join based upon your updates. If it is related, you can join; otherwise you can search yourself and join.
In case you can’t find anything related to your niche, then you can create one by yourself and invite others to join it.
Please bear in mind that if you are not using Communities, you are missing out an amazing way to connect with your customers online. So, utilize them well.
But don’t use them only to post about your business. Share and leave comments on others’ posts as well.
9. Posting updates without any comments:
Don’t post anything on Google Plus without adding any description or comment because it will never give engagement to your business or will give only little engagement. Also, it will never encourage people to read your post, share or comment on your post.
